Plant, lawn, and pest care in Rochester Hills

Rochester Hills is the rolling city around the separate City of Rochester. Stewards lists Rochester Hills. A property in the City of Rochester can still be submitted as Other.

Rochester Hills shares a long border with Troy to the south and meets Oakland Township to the north. Rochester Road, Avon Road, and Tienken are useful ways to describe a location. The Clinton River runs through the city. None of that is a pin on a map of a specific house. It explains why yards here are less flat than a Troy subdivision and why so many of them end in trees.

The City of Rochester is a different municipality inside that frame. It is not one of the core communities on this site. If that is where the property sits, choose Other on the form and say so. The work may still be discussed. Listing Rochester Hills accurately is the point of this page.

Slope and trees

Lawns on a grade dry in streaks. The top browns while the bottom stays lush, or the bottom thins where water and foot traffic collect. Erosion opens seams at bed edges. A lawn quote should say that the turf is on a slope and roughly how much of it is kept. Fertilization and pesticide service will not fix a grade by themselves, and Stewards does not mow or regrade.

Oaks along the rear line, and newer ornamentals in the front yard, are the usual plant health mix. In outbreak years, spongy moth caterpillars can defoliate those oaks. Japanese beetles take lindens and roses in the ornamental beds. Spruce screens have the same needlecast and canker problems as elsewhere in Oakland County. Deer browse the evergreens and hostas where the woods meet the lawn. Salt and slush on hilly drives burn turf edges and the evergreens planted along them.

The wooded line and the house

Mosquitoes hang in shaded low spots. Ticks are part of a wooded edge. Mention them if they are being found. Questions about illness are medical, not a pest visit. Mice use the cover between the tree line and the garage once nights cool. Wasps nest in beds and under decks that stay quiet. Fall insects gather on the sunniest elevation of the house, the same boxelder bugs, lady beetles, and stink bugs seen in Troy, often with more trees closer to the wall.

Oakland Township, just north, stretches the same edge conditions onto larger parcels. Troy, just south, is flatter and more uniformly suburban. A Rochester Hills quote is clearest when it says where the slope and the woods are, and whether the request is the lawn, the trees, or the house.
